Getting started with Home's chat

Home is a chat: say what you want to make, and the studio asks what it needs and makes it.

Everything in Programmable starts on Home, the first place in the studio at /studio. Home is a chat. Type what you want in your own words, and the studio works out what to make, asks a few questions when it needs to, and makes it right there in the conversation.

What you can type

  • An idea in a sentence, such as "a 30-second explainer on how our onboarding works".
  • A website address, to make an animation or a deck from that page.
  • "An Instagram post for our spring sale", and graphics are designed in every size you need.
  • "Design a logo for Northwind Freight, a trucking firm", and you get six logo ideas.
  • "Make a deck about our Q3 results", with notes or a link pasted in.
  • Account actions, such as "invite [email protected] as an editor", "create a project called Spring launch" or "buy credits". The studio shows what it will do and waits for you to confirm.

The + menu and the Make pill

The + button beside the box lists everything the studio makes: Animation, Deck, Graphics, Logo and Website components. Picking one sets what the box makes, and the Make pill shows your choice. Leave it on Auto and the studio reads it from your words.

The same menu has An animation about (Product demo, Explain how something works, Tell a story, Turn posts into social clips) and Add, where you can upload screenshots or an HTML animation, bring in frames from Figma or a screen recording, or get the Chrome extension.

After something is made

The chat keeps going. Ask for changes right below the result, compare the before and after, then save or discard. Every chat is kept under Recent chats in the sidebar, so you can pick it up later.

Your first few steps

A new account starts with a short setup chat: your website, the brand found there, and what to make first. A Set up pill tracks five steps: add your brand, make your first animation, make graphics or a deck, download or share something, and save an idea with the extension.

Getting started

The Set up pill opens Getting started, which you can also reach with Cmd/Ctrl+K. It keeps your first steps and a short tour of each part of the studio: animations, graphics, decks, logos, Ideas with the Capture extension, publishing and sharing, and website components. A tour also sits at the top of the page it's about until you finish it, or choose Hide this tour; it stays in Getting started either way.

Each step ticks itself off once it has really happened: nothing to tick, and a step you skip waits for you. If a tour shows credits beside it, finishing it adds them to your balance as included credits, once per account, the next time you open Getting started. They're for finishing the work, not for opening a page or skipping a step, and like other credits they never expire.
