Programmable Capture for Chrome

Programmable Capture gathers what you need from any page and sends it to the studio, or saves it to your Ideas board. It is included with every account and works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc. Find it on the extension page.

Install it

1. Download the extension and unzip it.
2. Open chrome://extensions and turn on Developer mode (top right).
3. Click Load unpacked and choose the unzipped folder.
4. Pin Programmable Capture from the puzzle-piece menu so it's one click away.

For product demos

• Capture the visible area, the full page (scrolled and stitched into one tall image) or a selected area.
• Record steps: click through a feature and each click becomes a screen, in order.
• Record the tab: up to 90 seconds of video; the studio picks the key screens. The time shows on the toolbar icon and nothing of ours is on the page, so it stays out of the video. Open the extension to stop it, or press Alt+Shift+X.
• Blur details for a quick internal demo, or blur every email on the page in one click. Clear all takes the blurs off. Blur can sometimes be undone, so for anything private use sample data, or Hide when you mark up a capture.
• Click a capture in the tray to mark it up: arrows, boxes, highlights, text, and Hide, which replaces a detail with a solid box in the picture itself. Download saves it as a PNG, for places that take an image upload such as AppSumo or Product Hunt. Drag captures to change their order; steps renumber to match.
• Size the window so the page is exactly 1280 × 720, 1440 × 810, 1920 × 1080 (AppSumo's minimum) or 1270 × 760 (Product Hunt's gallery size).

A very long page stops at what fits in one image, and the extension tells you when that happens.

Shortcuts: Alt+Shift+S captures the screen, Alt+Shift+A selects an area, Alt+Shift+I saves the selection or page to Ideas, Alt+Shift+X stops recording. The extension lists them under Shortcuts, where you can change them.

For stories, decks and brands

• Page text: an article's text, title, author and date.
• Right-click a selected passage to send it as a quote, or an image with its caption and credit.
• Click a table to send its numbers for charts.
• Grab a site's brand, colours, or a product from any shop.
• Collect several pages and choose Make a deck.

Send it

Choose what to make (an animation, social clips, a deck or graphics), or Save to Ideas, and press Send. It appears in your open studio, or a new one. A brand goes to your brand kit for review.

Your tray empties only once the studio has everything, so if an upload fails you can send again. The extension shows who you're signed in as, and offers Sign in if you aren't.

To save something without opening the extension, right-click a page, a selection or an image and choose Save to Ideas.

Anything you don't send stays on your device and is removed after 14 days. To keep the tray in view while you browse, use the panel button at the top of the extension. Capturing stays on the toolbar icon, the shortcuts and the right-click menu, because Chrome doesn't let a side panel capture the page.

The extension follows your browser's language, English or Spanish.
